Saturday 23 December

Today was an early start for most of us with Julie and Ruth heading off at 8.15 am to the local markets with the Christmas food & booze listπŸŽ…πŸΎπŸ˜‰

Meantime a contractor arrived with a mini digger to excavate holes for 2 large tree ferns that needed relocating. Michael and I “supervised” then backfilled the holes – job done!

Later. Calum & Morven were dropped off in one of the “cool” districts where they went native and had an “Amber Sandwich” for lunchπŸ˜‰

Meanwhile Julie and I made our way, as the mercury rose to 26C😎, to the National Gallery of Australia and associated Sculpture Garden.

The NGA has a large collection of art by the Indigenous Peoples which we both found hugely interesting and thought provoking.

We returned home at 3.30 pm for the next event which we felt was a real privilege since were taken to a women’s football match, equivalent to the WSL in the UK.

Canberra United were playing a team from Sydney in what began to feel like an oven as they kicked off at 5pm πŸ₯΅ so much so that after cooking we had to move across to the “shady side of the street”….phew…

Unfortunately, Canberra lost 3 Nil in a game that was played at the highest level.

One of Sophia’s teammates, Lucy, and her Dad, Gordon, were also there so we later headed off to a local Asian restaurant that was full of Asians – always a good sign – and our meal was superb 😊

Arrived home at 9pm in reflective mood counting our blessings, especially having such good friends in this most fascinating country 😊
