Today would be our longest drive so far as we set our compass towards Manapouri, Fiordland in the Southland Region of NZ.

As was becoming the ‘norm’, we were blessed with yet another blue sky day as we said farewell to our superb hosts ☺️🇳🇿

First stop, totally for me, was to visit the only fully covered stadium in NZ, home to The Highlanders, and where the All Blacks play when in town🏉

The next part of the journey saw us pass through mega farmland where most of the settlements we passed through were far more dominated by high street tractor showrooms than those selling cars.
We broke for lunch in one of the larger towns of Balclutha aka “Land of the Mighty River”

Clutha is Gaelic for the River Clyde, so another example of the Scottish influence in the South🏴
A lot of the housing we passed was the standard NZ bungalow on a small plot and several in need of some TLC…as were some parts of the State Highway too!

As we approached Fiordland we could see how, in the distance, the end of the Southern Alps receded, almost in deference to the New Kids on the Block…

We arrived at our campsite, very quirky with it’s unique style in cabins, on Lake Manapouri, still basking in 23C at 6.45 PM😎🇳🇿

The site owners were also very passionate about Morris Minors🤔

We chilled and then explored the harbour where, the following day, our exploration of Doubtful Sound would begin☺️
