Tuesday 30 January 24

With our plans now changed to flying from Wellington to Hamilton at 4pm, “chillaxing” was definitely the only item on the agenda after the previous 2 days…

The route would be due North and c. 500km as the crow, aka Air NZ, flies

Since Fiona and Deryk were both working from home today it made all the more sense to enjoy their company for one last time; bright blue skies also suggested another dose of Vitamin D might prevail😎

After a light lunch we said our goodbyes to (most of) our magnificent hosts from “The Whyte House” then Fiona kindly drove us to the Airport.

Passing through this cool Capital City we were soon reminded just how appealing it’s setting and built environment is, wondering, simultaneously, just how did the house builders manage to construct so many properties on the side of a cliff..πŸ€”

As Fiona dropped us off it became clear today would fall into the Scorcherooni category, with it being c. 27C at 3 pm and a cloudless sky…

Wellington Airport is small, but remains stylish too…

On leaving Wellington you clearly see how the city sits nestled by the surrounding hills…

…and the 70 minute flight was as smooth as silk….and half empty!

Approaching our landing we got our first sightings of the River Waikato, New Zealand’s longest, and from where the Region takes it’s name…

…and for those who don’t know what Karst is – I certainly didn’t – here we go…

My cousin Gail, with her customary efficiency, was there to meet us and we arrived at her and Ian’s home, which, at 6pm and now 29C, had “Chillaxin’ is our Watchword” written all over itπŸ˜‰πŸ˜Ž

With Gail preparing the perfect 2 course meal, served up in their lovely garden, Ian, meantime, was presented with a wee gift for – his man cave – in keeping with one of his outdoor passions…

… however, the fabricator hadn’t read the email, as the “off” between Gone and Fishing was missing πŸ˜‰

And so ended our very Chillaxing day….and just as well, as Gail was taking us to the Zumba class she leads tomorrow πŸ•ΊπŸ½πŸ’ƒπŸ½πŸ˜‰…no excuses now…Bamboleo, Bambolea🎡🎢
