With the prospect of yet another gorgeous day ahead of us, June was set to be our local guide as Bill set about some serious garden maintenance ahead of their house showing at the weekend…

Meantime we took in more of their lifestyle block…

Our first stop was in the tree lined Havelock North area of Hastings…

And, according to June, it would be at a “wee cafΓ© I quite like..”
Having completely undersold it, we arrived at the unique Birdwoods…

This has a fascinating backstory and is a fitting tribute to the Zimbabwean family that moved here in 2004…

… where we met their version of “The Three Degrees”…

I think they edged it on Julie and June’s version π
We had never experienced such an unusual combination of thought-provoking offerings and a couple of hours soon passed in this most magical of settings…you decide if you agree with us…

Suitably impressed, the Beat That Gauntlet was thrown down as June drove us to Te Mata Peak…

Naturally, as we have now learned during our time here, this was spectacular too, set in the Te Mata Park overlooking Hawke’s BayβΊοΈπ³πΏ

Inspired by those views, our next stop would be back on the valley floor…

The history of winemaking in NZ is interesting and good to see that a Scotsman was at the vanguard π΄σ §σ ’σ ³σ £σ ΄σ Ώπ³πΏπ₯

Our final stop was to get some messages after passing through Hastings, a mixture of modern and Art Deco influences…

Back at their home in Maraekakaho June & Bill served up another fab meal and drinks which we enjoyed al fresco, of course, watching the evening sun go down…βΊοΈ

…and so ended another most memorable day βΊοΈπ₯π³πΏ
