Thursday 29 February 24

This morning Leith drove us the 9km across Burnaby to one of her favourite running loops…

… where we enjoyed a 2 hour walk that included spotting a beaver dam – plus how much damage they can do to large trees – and an eagle’s nest; come join us on our stroll (although I did do some interval jogging to catch up when my desire to take many photos delayed my progressπŸƒπŸ½β€β™‚οΈπŸ“±)…

On the final stretch I noticed this small wooden cabin being built…

…where the use of Tyvek building paper thrust me back mentally 3 years to my Pandemic project i.e. The Mossie Bothy…

Tyvek are the main supplier of this type of unique material and all sources of it had completely dried up as production had to be diverted 100% towards PPE gowns etc….how quickly we forget…

(However, after weeks of searching, I did finally manage to source an alternative material and the build got completed….albeit 18 months later than originally planned!)

At the end of our trip around the lake we noticed a large compound storing a wide collection of canoes, kayaks and rowing boats, all clearly designed for flat water racing, that belonged to 2 very active clubs…

…and, as a former competitive K(ayak) 1 whitewater slalomist in my 20s,  these long, skinny kayaks looked very alien to me…πŸ€”

There’s also fairly recently built large pavillion on the shore making this an excellent facility for paddlers/rowers of any age and experience…well done all those volunteers that are the lifeblood of such sports clubsπŸš£πŸ½β€β™‚οΈπŸ›Ά

…and excellent other facilities too…

En route to the car some Canada Geese, handsome, but considered a pest by many because of their over-grazing, boldly crossed our path…

After noticing the wide variety of houses on our brief return to home we had some lunch and then a “power” nap😴

Somehow my “nap” morphed into a 3 hour sleep, so Julie took herself off for another walk; meantime I was awoken at 6pm by the sound of laughter as 3 of L&R’s musician friends turned up for dinner and band rehearsal 🎢

So we were subsequently treated to some high quality live music from a 5 piece, multi instrumental, Contra Dance band…and it was stupendous, toe tapping jigs and reels for next hour and a half..pure dead brilliant πŸ˜‰πŸŽΊπŸ₯πŸŽ»πŸŽΉπŸŽ·πŸͺˆπŸͺ•

…and with that music still ringing in our ears we said our farewells to their hugely talented friends and retired for evening, fully in the knowledge that we were going to see a performance of Rob’s trio the next eveningπŸ˜‰
