Saturday 2 March 24

With the day greeting us with a smattering of snow falling we enjoyed a relaxed morning discussing Rob’s concert the previous evening…

After Leith returned from her daily run she drove us up Burnaby Mountain (where there was a tad more snow) to the place where she has worked for more than 30 years, Simon Fraser University…

Built in 1965 this campus enjoys a unique setting and, together with 2 others in the districts of Downtown Vancouver and Surrey Central, is home for c.37,000 students…

There are currently some new buildings being constructed, one of which would resonate strongly with Calum since the build method was the subject of his Uni dissertation…

…plus an almost completed new Student Union complex which mirrors the style of the original…

However, the undoubted star of the show was Leith’s office with its stunning views over the mountains…

Leith also has a strong academic interest in the works and life of Robert Burns…and it shows 🏴󠁧󠁒󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

After digesting some of the thought provoking posters, and other forms of art, we bid farewell to this mountain top Uni and returned to Basecamp…

Shortly after getting back we had the pleasure of re-uniting with Sarah – a good friend of Leith’s who had stayed a couple of nights with usΒ  back in 1998 in Edinburgh – and her husband Elliot; they are from just over the border in the US and were returning from a ski trip to Whistler…

L & R’s older son’s partner, Katya, was celebrating her dum de dumth birthday and had already been taken out for brunch and a visit to the local gelato before we headed out, 8 strong, for a Thai meal, back up on Hastings Street…

…and the Christmas lights – still hanging in March πŸ€” – added some air of celebration to what had been a splendid meal ☺️

Back at the house presents were given and it soon became clear that Katya’s love of “Hieland Coos” was a recurring theme…πŸ‚πŸ΄σ §σ ’σ ³σ £σ ΄σ Ώ

After other gifts were opened a home made cake was then served before a return to Balderdash rounded off another memorable day in Burnaby Heights β˜ΊοΈπŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦
